State failure and urban fragility.The cases of Goma and Lubumbashi (DRC)

It is often assumed that the DRC is the epitome of state failure. This thesis argues that such assumptions are empirically and conceptually flawed by analyzing the insitution-building potential of coping mechanisms developped in Congolese cities both by the municipal administrations and urbanites.
